WIGA 2009 Geo-Technology Workshop

Attend WIGA's Geo-Technology workshop, JUNE 22-26, 2009.
In 2007, WIGA offered two one-day workshops (May and September) to introduce teachers to GPS and Geo-Caching. Great fun! WIGA's Steering Committee decided to hold a five-day Geo-Technology workshop in summer 2008. Even more fun! We'll repeat that introductory workshop in 2009, with the intent of offering an advanced workshop in Summer 2010 for graduates of the two intro workshops.
The June 2009 week will include a great array of geo-technology strategies - GPS, geo-caching, earth-caching, online GIS, EarthKAM, effective Internet strategies, Thinkfinity use, and more. Come join us and tech-up" your classroom, with teachers from across the state.
Plan on spending June 22-26 at St. Norbert College--earn two St. Norbert grad credits, learn some great geo-tech strategies--useful at all levels.
Your cost will total $300--a $50 check with registration and $250 when you arrive at SNC. Plan to arrive by noon Monday the 22nd for lunch and afternoon sessions, and be on your way home by noon on Friday the 26th.

Western Wisconsin Geography and History Field Workshop
July 13-17, 2009
Come join us on the road for five days this summer as we travel the western shore of Wisconsin, discovering important aspects of its geography and history. Our motor coach journey will take us along the Mississippi River Wisconsin from Cassville in the southwest to Alma in west central Wisconsin. We’ll gain first-hand knowledge of both historical and present-day themes and issues in this beautiful portion of the Badger State. This traveling course (5 days and 4 nights) is for K-12 teachers of any subject area and grade level. Plan to arrive at Melrose - Mindoro by 11 a.m. on Monday July 12, and be on your way home by 4 p.m. on Friday, July 17. Earn two St. Norbert graduate credits. Your cost will total $300 - a $50 check with registration and $250 upon arrival at Melrose-Mindoro. Responsibilities include readings (several in advance), daily sharing of findings, and the keeping of a reflective journal. There will be walking daily, including gravel trails—some with moderate difficulty; please consider this as you apply.

A WIGA Summer Workshop - June 16-20, 2008 -
St. Norbert College
Workshop Description:
Work with colleagues from across the state to weave solid geographic content into your literacy efforts. This WIGA workshop, to be held on the lovely campus of St. Norbert College, begins at noon on Monday, June 16 and ends at noon on Friday, June 20. Participate in interactive presentations on geographic and literacy content, and take home effective strategies for your classroom use. Work to integrate the content and strategies into your teaching. You'll be required to attend all sessions—including evening events, and to complete an assignment (based upon workshop topics and supported with DPI state standards for social studies and language arts) that will be shared at the end of the week.
Cost:
Instruction, four nights lodging, all meals, two SNC graduate credits, and FUN! - total cost to you is $200 ($50 check with application, and $150 when you arrive on campus).

St. Norbert College - De Pere, Wisconsin
Institute Description: Explore the experiences of Wisconsin immigration: European settlement of the 1800s, the Great Migration of African-Americans in the early 20th century, and recent—and continuing—Hispanic and Hmong migrations. Learn about their regions of origin, their varied passages to Wisconsin, and their settlement and lives here in the Badger State. Take home standards-based geography content and hands-on teaching strategies that you can use in your classroom in the coming school year. We’ll also take an all-day field trip to Milwaukee to highlight immigrant experiences and urban settlement landscapes.

Global Educator Graduate Certificate Program through UW-Oshkosh
The Global Educator Graduate Certificate is 16-18 graduate credits (post bachelor’s study) that provide an overview, theory, philosophy, and historical and current perspectives on issues surrounding education, program development, and global citizenship. The program can be taken either as a stand alone graduate certificate or the credits may be applied to the Education Leadership Master's Program.
The certificate includes a study abroad segment of 1 to 3 credit hours with all arrangements made with the university’s assistance.
