Reptile expert Brady Barr has made it his life’s work to study and protect some of the world’s most dangerous animals—alligators and crocodiles. Recently Barr became the first person ever to capture and study all 23 species of wild crocodilians—a historic achievement documented in a National Geographic Channel program called Dangerous Encounters: Countdown Croc, chronicling Barr’s final three captures, in Borneo, China, and the Philippines.

By increasing knowledge and understanding of these powerful creatures, Barr hopes to save both reptile and human lives. Nearly one-third of all crocodile species are considered endangered; one of the species he has captured, the Siamese crocodile, was believed to have gone extinct in the wild prior to Barr’s rediscovery of it. Closer to home, as we continue to develop communities in areas such as the Florida Everglades, attacks on humans are becoming more frequent. Barr hopes his research will help people in these overlapping habitats learn how to safely coexist with crocodiles.

Barr has hosted or contributed to over 60 wildlife documentaries—more than anyone in the history of National Geographic—including Reptile Wild with Dr. Brady Barr, Croc Chronicles, and the ongoing series, Dangerous Encounters, on the National Geographic Channel.

Spend an entertaining morning with this humorous and engaging scientist, as he shares with us highlights from his research and adventures in 50 countries in search of these feared denizens of the animal world.
