Dr. Charles "Chuck" Gildersleeve (1940-2009) died peacefully in his sleep on October 10, 2009. He was a Professor of Geography in the Department of Geography and Geology at the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he had taught since 1964. His first love was teaching and, over a 45-year career, he taught nearly 20,000 students in college classes. In the 1980s, he was one of the founders of the Geographic Educators of Nebraska (GEON) and served as faculty coordinator of the group from 1987-2006. He also directed the Nebraska State Geographic Bee from 1988-2007. Memorials may be sent to the University of Nebraska Foundation in care of the Charles Gildersleeve Geography Scholarship Fund.
