About the Illinois Geographic Alliance
Coordinated by Dr. Darrell P. Kruger of Illinois State University, the Illinois Geographic Alliance (IGA) began operations January 1, 1987. Its purpose is to mobilize the grassroots energies of teachers, school administrators, academic geographers, and others to improve geographic education in grades K-12. This Illinois Geographical Society/National Geographic Society (NGS) program has reached hundreds of teachers and tens of thousands of Illinois students. NGS and the State of Illinois provide funding for activities. IGA members provide institutes, workshops, on-site consultants, and other services to districts and their in-service teachers. "Without Geography You’re Nowhere"
Dedicated to the Teaching of Geography in the State of Illinois
The IGA functions under the auspices of the Illinois Geographical Society and the National Geographic Society, and is made possible by the funding from the National Geographic Society and the State of Illinois.
